That day I was talking to my friend about travelling to Delhi. I was discussing with her the difficulties I was facing in travelling to Delhi. Road trips would take longer time, Train tickets not available and not able to find suitable flights. She started to talk about Delhi and all the flaws of the city. In her opinion, Delhi was not a good choice. Suddenly she started talking about Dubai and how wonderful the place is. She started looking into travel plans and found a plane exactly on the day I was planning to travel to Delhi. She booked my tickets to Dubai and before I could return to my senses, I was in Dubai. Here I am sitting and thinking, why am I in Dubai? I have work to do only in Delhi.
How many times have we changed directions, or made choices just because someone else suggested? A trivial argument with your friend, you share it with another. Moments later you see yourself fighting with your friend. After a small quarrel with your spouse, you vent it to your friend. The next minute you see yourself in an advocate’s office for divorce. You want to become X, but you become Y because someone advised you to.
Whenever I struggle with my life and want to vent out, I ensure that I don’t share with someone who pushes me to make impulsive decisions that I would never take. I keep my distance from them. What is more important is to be clear about what we want for our lives and be focused without changing directions because someone suggested it.
Some people give their advice with genuine interest while others enjoy diverting people on purpose. Whatever might be their intention, this is your life. Delhi or Dubai should be what you want for your life.
