It’s about you

Even though I tried my hardest in all I accomplished as a child, my parents were unimpressed. I was open and sincere with my friends and yet could not satisfy them.  Despite my sincerity in my work, my supervisor did not approve of me. They were angry with me when I pushed everyone to work hard and reach their potential as the team’s leader. My students became hostile at me when I told them to stay focused on their studies and not to be sidetracked. My daughters get irritated with me when I tell them to work out and eat well. I simply ended up being frustrated because I kept expecting other people to think well of me.

Frequently, people are unaware of the degree of our commitment. They fail to see that whatever we are doing is solely in their best interests and do not understand the genuine motivation behind our actions. Every time we help someone else, we suffer because they don’t value it.

We must disregard other people’s reactions to us if we are to be true to who we are and carry on serving others, otherwise we will stop being ourselves. Over the years, I’ve learned to appreciate myself for who I am, to always give it my all, and to value my presence regardless of how other people react. Remember that it’s about you, not them.
